The bow grip

For this video lesson, you’ll need a stick and your bow. You should constantly check the grip. Common grip mistakes are:
- Tensing the hand
- Holding the bow by the edge of the stick
- Straightening the fingers
- Not putting bow fingers over the frog
Here are the roles of each finger:
- Thumb: supports the bow, provides fulcrum
- Middle finger: closes the ring with the thumb to secure fulcrum
- Index finger: presses the bow down and controls sounding point
- Ring finger: controls Contact Point, or straightness of bow
- Little finger: lifts bow pressure
